PICK'N PAINT

PAINT LIGHT, PAINT BRIGHT,
THE FIRST PAINT I SEE TONIGHT.
I WISH I MAY, I WISH I MIGHT,
GO WITH THE DARK OR GO WITH THE LIGHT?

PAINT'N WALLS, PAINT'N HALLS,
PICK'N PAINT HAS TOO MANY PITFALLS.
TAKE A SEAT, FIRE UP YOUR MENTHOLS,
YOU MIGHT NEED A DRINK 'CAUSE YOU
WON'T BELIEVE YOUR EYEBALLS.
NELLIE'S GONE MAD AND GONNA
JACKSON POLLOCK HER HOUSE WALLS!

Signing off for Nellie again. This time she's in bed babbling something about Tomato Red, Restrained Gold, Latte, Meadow Trail. She's not making much sense. Do you know how drug addicts shop a lot of pharmacies with their prescriptions? This is the honest truth......Nellie has been going to three different Sherwin Williams paint stores to secure her samples. She's too embarrassed to keep going back to just one store. I do believe my Nellie has a problem.

PHED UP?

I'm so very aphraid that Phil the Phantastic Phoreman is getting phed up with me.

Yesterday I decided to redo the steps out the vaulted back porch directly in back of the house. They had already put in the 4 foot wide steps and retaining wall/bed area. Done...finished....in the can.

I was visualizing the four stone posts on the porch. Right now only the outer posts on each side are done. There are going to be two stone posts on each side just 5 inches apart. Big wood posts are going to go up to the vaulted ceiling from the stone posts. Then you had the stone beds coming in along the edge of the porch to each side of 4 foot wide steps going down to a flagstone path. I know this is confusing to follow, but I didn't like what I saw in my head......too much going on right smack dab in the middle of the porch....really, a distraction to the view.

So, we decided to take the ends of the retaining walls back 4 feet on each side, just abeam the inner posts on the porch (which aren't there right now) and to make the steps 12 feet wide. Of course, that means we have to put in another flagstone patio below the steps to make it look good. There will be a flagstone path from this patio to the side of the house with the other patio/fireplace and floating deck.

The side patio is not finished. Phil said he needed to have the stone guy and the deck guy there at the same time to make sure the bridge to the deck and the patio are the exact same level. Their schedules prevented that from happening last week. Tomorrow they will start.....tearing out the steps on the back center porch and part of the retaining walls and finishing up the patios and putting in the footing for the bridge and deck. This is a picture of the side wrap-around steps from last week. I forgot to take any of the completed wall and back steps yesterday. Too busy making the decision to "remodel before we move in."

With Phil's help, yesterday we designed the layout of the master closet. Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with a brain storm. I want to add something to the closet.

Phantastic Phil doesn't know about this one yet. I'll tell him tomorrow. The only thing that he could possibly be happy about is that I didn't hop out of bed and ring him up at 3:00 AM.

Do you think the aforementioned adoption (Oct. 14 post - Band-Aid-Fix) might be about to phall through because Phantastic Phil the Phoreman is phed up with me?

"WHAT? WHAT, Phil? Six more weeks of me is all you can take? Why do you want me to back up a few steps?"

MY BLOG CABIN

Where have I been? Living under a rock? How long has Blog Cabin been on the DIY network? I don't watch much TV and I probably wouldn't watch the Do It Yourself network if I did. I'd be searching for the DIFM network (DoItForMe). That's just the kind of gal I am.

I recently learned about this interactive program from my sister.....she's a DIY type gal. The viewers of this show vote on choices for a remodel of a cabin and the option with the most votes is what is done. (At least, that's how I understand it works without actually having seen it.)

I am kicking myself around the ranch and back. These past few months could have been absolutely stress free for me if I had let family and friends make all decisions for the house! I could then blame YOU if things look weird, out of place or just goofy.

Well, it's never too late to start. HELP ME! HELP ME!

I've found 5 tables, anyone of which would fit opposite this hall tree in the entry. The depth of the seat to the back of this piece is only 19" deep. This picture is deceiving.....there is another piece of furniture behind the hall tree that makes it look much deeper. It is a dark wood with tooled leather accents. (Or, as the tag in the store says, "tulled" leather....it's hard to get good help these days!)

Now, YOU tell me which one of the following 5 tables would be your choice for the opposite wall.

NO. 1 - This table also has tooled leather accents

NO. 1 - Different view

NO. 2 - This one has rustic hardware on it and is a bit darker than it appears in the picture

NO. 3 - This one has a copper top

NO. 4 - This one has some leather and some silver accents

NO. 5 - This one has a lot of wrought iron

Please use the "comment" section at the end of this post to let me know which one I should get. If you can't figure out how to do that, please email me your choice.
THANK YOU AND GOOD NIGHT!
(Tex and I are going bowling while you make this decision for us.)

BAND-AID FIX

Tex got the computer patched up and we'll see how much more mileage he can milk out of this relic. I'm think'n not much. But, that's me. Just say'n.

Not nearly the success with Nellie as with the computer. I am still running slowly, freeze up often and am generally good for nothing. Tex might have to turn me in real soon on a newer model. You think the old boy could handle the newest, sleekest, fastest female on the market today? (The thought makes me chuckle!)

If the 'puter had to peter out, this was as good a time as any. The rock work is a slow process. Each stone has to be chipped and chiseled to fit. Was a little bit like watching grass grow.

The stone on the house and in the house is complete now. I'll take pictures next time out. Oh, let me see.....when could that possibly be? LIKE, TOO SOON. Back and forth, back and forth. It's one big blur. Here are pictures from the past couple weeks.

They took the texture off the beam. Sheesh! The vaulted part of this ceiling is going to be wood....like the wood in the picture of the underside of the overhang outside....stained, of course.

This whole wall is stone now, not just stone below the beams. The tall side is going to have two vertical wrought iron racks for wine and the other side is for ?????. Both niches are lit. The trim guy is going to put a wood counter top on the ????? side. The bottom of the wine side is stone 18" from the floor. They didn't do that initially........like they weren't going to put stone on the bottom of the other niche? Go figure!

You can see the texture on the wall below. WHY did they texture where cabinetry is going to be? WHY no stone below the fireplace. WHY no hearth? WHY do I have to deal with this?

There are going to be big wood posts on top of the stone bases in front.....coach lights on either side of the door. All the wood trim on the exterior is going be dark like the braces on the garage in the picture above. Oh, that vent on the front of the garage is going to be painted...we won't leave it like that! And, that full glass door is a temporary door. Don't ask me why the temporary garage doors are full glass. I'm tired of WHY!

When we make the trip out on Saturday, we should see they have started on the retaining walls, steps, fireplace, flagstone patio and the steel base for the floating deck. I think I'm most excited about this part of the house than anything else. If it wasn't for those dang rattlers, I think I just might live out in the back.
This is me and my Pardner, Phil the Phenomenal Phoreman, planning the patio. I would not be able to get through this without my PPPP. When we are finished with the house, I'm going to start the adoption process. I just know my two boys would love to have a little brother! I'm adopting Phil, not Pedro (with the measuring tape).......don't want to deal with ICE!

MELTDOWN NO. 2

This just might be the last post ever on this blog. It seems that my computer is melting down and so am I. Something is wrong with the computer that doesn't allow me to upload my pictures.

Something is wrong with me that is keeping me in my pajamas. Yesterday I didn't get dressed until noon, and only then because I had to. We had to make a trip out to the ranch to meet Tremendously Talented Travis, the cabinet guy, at 4:00.

After our meeting, Tex and I sipped a little vino on our back porch while we enjoyed the view, ate a sandwich and headed home at 7:00 PM. I was in bed by 9:30 and this morning I didn't get up until 9:15. That is because the nasty Building Boogie Man bonked me on the head at 2:00 AM. I started thinking about cabinets and couldn't go back to sleep until after Tex left for work. He was so sweet. He closed the bedroom door (which is right off the kitchen), fixed his own breakfast and lunch very quietly and tiptoed out the door at 7:00 AM. It is sooooooo nice that his closet and bathroom are on the other side of the apartment. Dang.......why didn't I incorporate that feature into the new house????

Ya'll come back sometime and check in on my old, worn out bones and my old, overworked, ancient computer. We both might be back up and running soon.

Or, not.
